Welcome to Mind Care Counselling!

I’m a qualified counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I’m a client-led and solution focused counsellor. I use a combined model of person-centred therapy and solution-focused model, and when appropriate, cognitive behavioural therapy. My therapy sessions are tailored to meet your needs and we’ll always work at a pace that suits you.

My role as your counsellor is to provide you with a space where we can build a trusting, open and genuine relationship so that you can express and explore difficult and troubling feelings in a confidential, safe and non-judgemental environment. 

I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives, and it’s my job as your counsellor to help you find tools and solutions to do that. The tools that I’ll offer you are tools that I’ve been perfecting over my career helping people just like you. My aim for you is to have at least five different tools and techniques that you can always carry with you, so no matter where you go, you will always have access to discreet exercises that can give you fast relief.

As a young adult, I suffered from severe anxiety and low mood. Through my own therapy, I learned how to be in control of my feelings of anxiousness and move past them so that they didn’t have control over me. I have not suffered a panic attack since.  I want you to feel the same freedom that I experience every day.

Frequently asked questions about counselling and my services

The aim of counselling is to provide you with a confidential and safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings, and to discuss tools and techniques to help you manage any difficult or challenging thoughts, feelings or behaviours you might have and achieve personal growth.

My role is to help you through this process. I will not judge or tell you what to do, but I will actively listen to you, provide evidence-based suggestions, and ask you questions to help you develop self-awareness and recognise unhelpful thought patterns and/or behaviours. Where appropriate I may also suggest other types of professional support available to you.

  • You’ve been having strong feelings of worry, panic, sadness or anger that you’re finding hard to manage.
  • You’re feeling stuck, numb or unfulfilled with your current circumstances.
  • You feel like it’s hopeless and that nothing you do can make a difference.
  • You’re constantly putting yourself down and you’re sure that nothing you do is ever good enough.
  • Sometimes it feels like there’s no end to the pain, stress and suffering.

If you find yourself answering yes to any of these, then you may find it helpful to speak to a trained counsellor. 

This depends on what’s brought you to counselling and the specific outcomes that you want to achieve. In many cases, short term therapy can be highly effective and clients are able to reach their goals in 8 – 12 sessions. In more complex cases, particularly where there are deep rooted issues or trauma, long term therapy can be more effective. We’ll discuss your specific needs and expectations in our first session and agree on a plan that you’re comfortable with.

Each session will last for 50 minutes with an opportunity towards the end of each session to reflect. Sessions usually take place once a week. If necessary, we can discuss the frequency of sessions and come up with a schedule that will best meet your needs.

Payment needs to be made before each session via BACS bank transfer.

Sessions are £50 each. 

Terminating counselling

Counselling is voluntary, meaning you do not have to attend if you feel that the sessions are not helping. If that’s the case, let me know as soon as you start to feel this way so that we can discuss  and decide the best way forward for you. 

Cancelling or missing a session

You can cancel a session by giving at least 48 hours’ notice.​ The full cost of the session is payable if less than 48 hours notice is given or if you miss a session.

If you need to cancel due to an emergency (death of close family member, accident, or hospitalisation), no cancellation fee will apply.

Lateness

If you arrive late, your session will still end at the originally scheduled time.

Cancellation by counsellor

If I cannot not attend a session, I will let you know via phone, email and text. 

The initial consultation is an assessment session during which we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve. There may be some forms and questionnaires to complete after the session. All of this will help me to better understand your needs and formulate a plan for helping you, if you decide to begin counselling.

This session is also a time for you to ask me questions and find out what it would be like to have counselling with me. 

Yes. I won’t share anything you tell me during therapy except where required by law or if you or someone else is in danger.

Other instances where I may need to disclose what’s been discussed are if you’re being referred to another healthcare professional for help; and during my discussions with my therapeutic supervisor (this is standard practice).

I work with a variety of issues including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem or low self-confidence, bereavement and grief, anger management, stress.
